Walmart Assisting in Disaster Relief for Alabama & Georgia Tornadoes
Wal-mart Stores, Inc. (WMT) is a worldwide retailer that operates in various formats. The three segments of the company include Wal-mart U.S., Wal-mart International, and Sam’s Club. The company is comprised of discount stores, supermarkets, supercenters, hypermarkets, warehouse clubs, cash and carry stores, home improvement stores, specialty electronics stores, apparel stores, drug stores, convenience stores, and membership-only warehouse clubs; and retail Websites.
Walmart and the Walmart Foundation has announced its commitment of $50,000 in cash and product donations to aid in the disaster relief of the multiple tornadoes that have caused a tragic impact on the states of Alabama and Georgia.
The commitment is broken down into $15,000 in product donations to multiple organizations that are providing support to the impacted areas. $15,000 cash has been committed to the Alabama Governor’s Relief Fund, $10,000 to the Community Foundation of East Alabama, and $10,000 to the American Red Cross that is offering relief services to the impacted communities in both Georgia and Alabama.
“We are deeply concerned by the devastation impacting our associates, customers and the communities we serve, including in the Opelika, Ala., area where we have a distribution center. In addition to cash donations, our local stores and distributions centers have been providing water, tarps, totes and other basic needs in affected communities.
