India Seeking Boeing’s P-8 Maritime Patrol & Reconnaissance Airplanes
Reportedly, Boeing is poised to sign an exclusive contract in 2020 for 10 Boeing P-8 maritime patrol and reconnaissance airplanes after India’s Ministry of Defense approved the purchase. The purchase is reported to be worth up to $3 billion. India currently has a fleet of eight P-8s and ordered four more in 2016 which is expected to be delivered by 2020. As per reports, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is now awaiting for the acquisition approval through the Cabinet.
“Should the Indian Navy decide to increase their fleet, we are ready to support their needs. The P-8 provides the world’s most advanced anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and armed intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, with extremely high reliability,” stated Chick Ramey, Boeing spokesman.
