Dow and USA Luge Team Renew Partnership
Dow is a subsidiary of DowDuPont (DWDP), a holding company comprised of Dow and DuPont with the intent to form three strong, independent, publicly traded companies in agriculture, materials science and specialty sectors. Dow combines science and technology knowledge to develop premier materials science solutions that are essential to human progress. Dow has one of the strongest and broadest toolkits in the industry, with robust technology, asset integration, scale and competitive capabilities that enable it to address complex global issues. Dow’s market-driven, industry-leading portfolio of advanced materials, industrial intermediates, and plastics businesses deliver a broad range of differentiated technology-based products and solutions for customers in high-growth markets such as packaging, infrastructure, and consumer care.
Once again, Dow will be the Official Technical Partner of the USA Luge team through 2022. Since beginning their work together in 2007, Dow and USA Luge have a historic performance at the Olympic Winter Game PyeongChang 2018, and a successful Luge World Cup and World Championship showing. The two partners work together to use scientific elements, engineering, and technology, to create exceptional sled performance on the luge track.
Luge competitions are held in extreme race environments at low temperatures, high speeds, and under high G-forces. Things such as material selection and design are extremely important components that not only allow for competitive runs but are critical to safe performances on the track. With the renewed partnership, the scientists at Dow will work with USA Luge to create state-of-the-art virtual modeling, prototyping, and thorough testing. Data and feedback from both athletes and coaches will also be used in the research.
Not only has the partnership produced advances in sled design that allow for faster speeds and more control, but it has allowed Team USA Luge to achieve historic successes at the Olympic Games with Eric Hamlin winning the first ever USA luge singles medal with a bronze at the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014, followed by Chris Mazdzer’s first U.S. men’s singles medal at PyeongChang 2018.
“Our partnership with Dow has elevated our ability to perform strongly in races from the onset. We are proud of the achievements to date – both on and off the track – and are now looking ahead to continued success with an eye toward preparations for the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.” – Gordy Sheer, director of marketing and sponsorship of USA Luge and an Olympic silver medalist
Luge World Cup racing will return to the United States this fall.
