The Home Depot Survey Reports Americans Look to “One-up” Neighbors in Outdoor Projects This Spring
The Home Depot, Inc. (HD) is the world’s largest home improvement retailer with retail stores all across North America. The Home Depot sells building materials and home improvement products, as well as lawn and garden supplies, and provides installation, home maintenance and professional service programs.
In preparation for Spring Black Friday (April 5 – April 22), The Home Depot delegated a survey of 1,000 Americans in order to find out their top spring home improvement projects. The survey, which was conducted by Wakefield Research, not only revealed the top home improvement projects, but also the motivation behind them.
According to those surveyed, Americans top outdoor projects for the spring include gardening, yard work, and painting. Indoors, they plan to focus on painting, redecorating, house renovations, and replacing flooring.
Why do American look to make these improvements this spring? The results of the survey reveal that is is simply because their neighbors are doing it. Millennials in particular were found to be very home-conscious and competitive. Parents were also found more likely to “one-up” their neighbors as opposed to non-parents. All in all the survey found that people’s preference for outdoing their neighbors was with curb appeal and outdoor projects.
