Dow to Make Appearance at Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018
The Dow Chemical Company is a part of the DowDupont Holding Company (DWDP), a business that is focused on agriculture, materials science and specialty product sectors that will lead their respective industries through productive, science-based innovation to meet the needs of customers and help solve global challenges.
Not only will be seeing amazing performances from athletes around the world at this years Winter Olympic Games, but we will also see technology from The Dow Chemical Company being put to use in the Gangneug Coastal Cluster ice venues. The DOWTHERM™ SR-1 Inhibited Ethylene Glycol-based is a heat transfer fluid from The Dow Chemical Company that will be used in three of the venues for the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. The fluid is chilled using refrigeration equipment and is then circulated through a grid of pipes under the rink floor where it causes a layer of water to freeze into a smooth sheet of ice by extracting any heat that collects on the floor.
Different winter sports require varying temperatures of ice. By using technology like the heat transfer fluids, athletes are offered the best conditions possible so that they are able to compete to the best of their abilities.
“Top-performing sporting venues are supported by the best of science and technology. Dow’s game-changing solutions not only create some of the best conditions for athletes to perform at their best, these solutions also help in the long-term maintenance of the Olympic venues.”- Louis A. Vega, Dow’s vice president of Olympic & sports solutions.
