“Economy Still Growing Strong?” Vista Partners October Macroeconomic & Investment Newsletter
Chair Janet L. Yellen spoke at the Group of 30 International Banking Seminar, Washington, D.C. in mid-October. She announced that the Fed still expects to raise the federal funds ratein December, and added they expect to then bump it up three additional times in 2018.
The economy is doing just fine it would seem according to the Fed. Unemployment stands at 4.2 percent. Yellen and her colleagues expect inflation to reach 2 percent by 2019.
How do aberrant weather effects affect the economy? “While the effects of the hurricanes on the U.S. economy are quite noticeable in the short term,” Yellen says, “history suggests that the longer-term effects will be modest and that aggregate economic activity will……..”
